Arctic. The Pole of Color
This exhibition is dedicated to the artistic interpretation of the northern latitudes in Russian art. Spanning the period from the 18th century to the present, it traces the evolving perception of the northern region: from romanticised imagery to documentary depictions of exploration and contemporary artistic perspectives.
Featuring over 130 pieces across a range of genres and techniques, the exhibition includes paintings, graphic art, sculpture, photography, ethnographic objects and multimedia installations.
The project presents the Arctic as a natural environment characterised by unique light and optical phenomena (the aurora borealis, polar day), a zone of scientific and industrial advancement, and a cultural symbol associated with themes of discovery and inspiration. At the same time, the focus remains on the ecological fragility of the region and the conditional nature of human control over this territory.
