Exhibition: Marc Chagall. The Joy of Earthly Gravitation
For the first time in four decades, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts presents a landmark exhibition within its walls – the solo showcase ‘Marc Chagall. The Joy of Earthly Gravitation. The core of the exhibition comprises works from the artist’s ‘Russian period’ (late 1900s – 1922), one of the most intense and significant phases of his career. The project offers a renewed opportunity to explore the art of Marc Chagall, who, even in emigration, continually returned to his homeland through his work. Works from the Russian museum and private collections are complemented by quotations from Marc Chagall’s autobiographical book, My Life.
The centrepiece of the exhibition, presented in the museum’s White Hall, is a reconstruction of the auditorium of the Jewish Chamber Theatre, for which the artist painted nine panels in 1920.
